How to do Amazon keyword research with this tool
- Start broad. Type what the product is, in two or three words ("garlic press", not your brand or model name).
- Sort by Amazon strength. The phrases at the top are the ones Amazon suggests first and most often. Your main keyword is usually in the top five.
- Check competition. Run the check on your top phrases. A low difficulty score with few titles containing the phrase means a gap you can rank for.
- Go long tail. Turn on 3+ words. Long phrases like "garlic press stainless steel dishwasher safe" bring fewer shoppers, but they know what they want and convert better.
- Build the backend. Press + on the phrases you did not use in the title and bullets, paste your title and bullets into the builder, and copy the 249-byte result into Seller Central.
Where each keyword belongs in your listing
| Keyword type | Where it goes | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Main phrase (highest strength) | First 80 characters of the title | Mobile search shows only the start of the title, and it carries the most ranking weight |
| Feature and use phrases | Bullet points | Indexed and read by shoppers, so write them as sentences |
| Synonyms, spelling variants, other languages | Backend search terms | Indexed but hidden, so they do not clutter the listing |
| Phrases that convert in ads | Title or bullets, plus exact match campaigns | Sales from a phrase lift your organic rank for it |
Why autocomplete beats keyword databases
Amazon builds its search suggestions from what shoppers type and buy. A phrase only shows up in the dropdown when enough people search for it, so every keyword in this list has real demand behind it. Paid keyword databases sell monthly volume estimates on top of that, built from their own models. Those help when you compare thousands of products, but for one listing the suggestion list and your own ad data tell you more.
Want the real numbers for your own product? Run your keywords in an auto and an exact campaign for two weeks, then upload the search term report to the search term report analyzer. It shows which phrases convert and which waste money. Work out what you can bid per keyword with the ACOS calculator.
Common keyword mistakes on Amazon
- Repeating the same word in title, bullets and backend. Amazon indexes a word once; repeats waste space.
- Putting competitor brand names in the backend. Amazon prohibits it and can suppress the listing.
- Going over 249 bytes. Accented letters and symbols take two or more bytes each.
- Stuffing the title. A title that reads like a keyword list loses clicks, and click-through rate matters for rank too.
- Picking a keyword the top 10 owns with thousands of reviews when a long tail version has weaker competition.

Questions sellers ask
Is this Amazon keyword tool really free?
Yes. Keyword search, the competition check and the backend search terms builder are free and need no account. To keep it fast for everyone, competition checks are limited to 30 per 10 minutes per visitor.
Where do the keywords come from?
From Amazon's own search bar. The tool asks Amazon for suggestions on your phrase and on your phrase plus every letter from a to z, so one seed turns into a few hundred phrases real shoppers type. Nothing comes from a third-party database or a model.
Does it show Amazon search volume?
No. Amazon does not publish search volumes, and every number you see elsewhere is an estimate. This tool shows Amazon strength instead: how high and how often Amazon suggests a phrase. Use it to compare phrases with each other. Your own Amazon Ads search term report is the only place with real impression counts for your product.
What does the competition check show?
The top 10 products Amazon returns for the phrase on amazon.com, with price, best seller rank, best category rank, brand and whether Amazon sells it. On top of that you get the number of competing results, the number of brands in the top 10, how many titles contain the phrase, and a difficulty score from 1 to 100.
How do I find low competition keywords on Amazon?
Search a broad seed, turn on 3+ words to see long tail phrases, then run the competition check on the strongest ones. Look for a low difficulty score, few titles that contain the exact phrase and a top 10 with weak sales ranks. Those are phrases where a well-built listing can reach page one.
Which marketplaces does it support?
Keyword suggestions work for amazon.com, .co.uk, .de, .fr, .it, .es, .ca, .com.au, .com.mx and .co.jp. The competition check covers amazon.com.
How long can Amazon backend search terms be?
Amazon allows 250 bytes in the Search Terms field in the US, UK and EU. Go over and Amazon can ignore the whole field, so the builder stops at 249. Do not repeat words from your title or bullets, skip commas, and leave out brand names, ASINs and words like best or new.
What should I do with the keywords?
Put the strongest phrase near the start of your title, work the next ones into your bullets, and put the rest in the backend search terms. Then run the same phrases as exact and phrase match in Sponsored Products to see which ones convert.
