Amazon Listing Image Requirements: The Complete 2024 Guide
Every image rule Amazon enforces, including main image specs, additional image guidelines, and what gets listings suppressed.
Images are the single most important element of an Amazon listing. Buyers cannot touch or try your product, so your images do all the selling. Amazon enforces strict image requirements — violating them suppresses your listing immediately.
Main image rules (non-negotiable)
The main image (the one shown in search results) must: show only the product being sold with no accessories, packaging, or props that are not included in the purchase; use a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255 — not off-white or light gray); fill at least 85% of the image frame; be at least 1000 pixels on the longest side (1600px recommended for zoom functionality); be in JPEG, TIFF, or PNG format; contain no text, logos, watermarks, or borders.
Products must be shown out of their packaging unless the packaging is the product (like gift wrap). If your product comes in multiple pieces, show all pieces together in the main image.
Additional image guidelines
You can upload up to 7 additional images (some categories allow more). These images can include lifestyle shots, infographics, detail shots, size comparison images, and packaging shots. Text overlays and graphics are allowed in additional images.
Use lifestyle images to show the product in context. A kitchen knife looks more compelling in a chef's hand than floating on white. Size comparison images — showing the product next to a hand or common household object — reduce return rates because buyers have accurate size expectations.
Video
Amazon allows one video per listing. Videos between 30 and 180 seconds perform best. Show the product being used, highlight key features, and include captions since many buyers watch without sound.
Technical specs
Minimum file size: no limit but keep files under 10MB for fast upload. Color mode: sRGB or CMYK. Resolution: 72 DPI minimum, 300 DPI preferred. File naming: use the ASIN or a unique SKU, avoid spaces and special characters in the filename.
Common image mistakes that suppress listings
Composite images (multiple products combined) on the main image get flagged. Lifestyle backgrounds on the main image get flagged. Watermarks from photographers or brands get flagged. Images showing the product in use (held by a hand) as the main image violate the "product only" rule for most categories — apparel is the main exception.
After uploading
Image changes take 15 minutes to 24 hours to appear on the live listing. If your images pass review but the listing is still suppressed, open a Seller Support case. Include the ASIN and a screenshot of your compliant images.
