Amazon Review Velocity Strategy: How to Build Reviews That Last

Review velocity matters more than total review count. Here is how to build a sustainable review strategy using only Amazon-compliant methods.

What Review Velocity Means

Review velocity is the rate at which your product accumulates new reviews over time. Amazon's algorithm weighs recent reviews more heavily than old ones: a product getting 10 reviews per month consistently outranks a product that got 200 reviews at launch and has received none since. Velocity signals ongoing customer satisfaction and relevance.

Legitimate Ways to Accelerate Reviews

Amazon's Request a Review button (in Seller Central order details) sends a standardized review request that complies with Amazon's TOS. The Vine program lets you enroll new products (fewer than 30 reviews) to receive reviews from vetted Vine Voices in exchange for free units. Insert cards asking customers to leave feedback (without incentivizing a positive review) are still permitted. Follow-up email sequences via Amazon's Buyer-Seller Messaging are allowed for order-related communication.

What Amazon Prohibits

Compensated reviews (paying or giving free products outside Vine in exchange for reviews) are a permanent suspension risk. Review swaps and ring schemes violate TOS. Asking buyers to change or remove negative reviews crosses the line. The penalties are severe: ASIN removal and account suspension. Not worth the risk given legitimate velocity tools exist.
