Amazon Product Photography Tips for Sellers 2026
Better product photos directly increase your Amazon conversion rate. Learn the image requirements, best practices for secondary images, and whether to hire or shoot yourself.
Why Product Photography Determines Your Conversion Rate
On Amazon, shoppers cannot touch or try your product. Your photos are the product. A listing with professional images consistently outperforms an identical listing with poor photos, regardless of price. Amazon's own data shows that listings with seven or more high-quality images convert significantly better than those with fewer.
Amazon's Image Requirements
Your main image must show the product on a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), occupy at least 85% of the image frame, and have no watermarks, text overlays, or borders. The minimum size is 1000 pixels on the longest side to enable the zoom feature, which increases conversions. Shoot at 2000 pixels or higher for best results.
Secondary Images That Sell
Use your remaining image slots strategically. Include lifestyle images showing the product in use, an infographic highlighting key features and dimensions, a close-up of materials or textures, and a comparison chart if relevant. If your product requires assembly or has multiple configurations, show each. Video is also highly effective and underused by most sellers.
Lighting and Setup Basics
Natural light through a north-facing window is excellent for small products. For consistent results, use a lightbox or photography tent with daylight-balanced LED panels. Avoid harsh shadows and color casts from mixed lighting sources. Shoot in RAW format and adjust white balance in post-processing before exporting to JPEG.
Hire or DIY
Professional product photographers charge between and per product depending on complexity and number of shots. For sellers with thin margins or many SKUs, learning to shoot yourself is worth the investment in time. A mirrorless camera with a macro lens and a basic lightbox setup costs under and pays for itself quickly.
