Amazon Product Images: Requirements and Best Practices for 2026

Amazon image requirements are strict and often misunderstood. Here is what you need to know to avoid suppressed listings and maximize conversion.

Amazon Image Requirements in Brief

Main images must have a pure white background (RGB 255,255,255), show only the product being sold with no accessories or packaging unless they are part of what the customer receives, and fill at least 85 percent of the image frame. The minimum size is 500 pixels on the longest side, but 2000 pixels or more is recommended to enable the zoom function. JPEG is the preferred format.

Why Listings Get Suppressed

Amazon suppresses listings automatically when main images violate these rules. Common violations: lifestyle images used as the main image, text or watermarks overlaid on the main image, colored backgrounds, and images that show the product too small in the frame. Suppressed listings do not appear in search results and cannot be purchased. You will see a Quality Alert in Seller Central under Inventory Health.

Secondary Images

You can upload up to eight additional images or videos. These secondary images have much more freedom: lifestyle shots, infographics with text, 360-degree views, comparison tables, and packaging shots are all allowed. Use them to tell the product story, answer common questions pre-emptively, and show scale. Products with seven or more images consistently outperform those with fewer in conversion rate data.

Image Quality Beyond Compliance

Compliance is the minimum. Conversion comes from quality. Professional photography that shows your product in context, at flattering angles, with consistent lighting signals trustworthiness. Blurry, low-contrast, or poorly staged images reduce conversion even when they technically meet Amazon requirements. If your images look amateurish compared to competitors, that gap costs you sales regardless of review count or price.

Running an Image Audit

Before investing in new photography, audit what you have. Check each listing for suppressed image alerts in Seller Central, then compare your secondary images against top competitors in your category. Note what information they show that you do not. Prioritize fixing suppressed main images first, then improving secondary images for your highest-traffic listings.
