Amazon Policy Violation: How to Respond Before It Becomes a Suspension
What to do when Amazon issues a policy violation warning, how to write a response that closes the case, and which violations lead to suspension if ignored.
Amazon sends policy violation warnings before most account suspensions. These warnings appear in Account Health under Policy Compliance. Many sellers ignore them. That is the mistake that turns a manageable warning into a full account deactivation.
What types of policy violations Amazon issues
Listing violations: your product title, images, bullet points, or description violates Amazon's style guide or category-specific requirements.
Product compliance violations: your product requires safety certification, age labeling, or regulatory approval that Amazon cannot verify.
Intellectual property violations: a rights holder filed a complaint claiming your listing infringes a trademark, copyright, or patent.
Authenticity violations: Amazon or a buyer has raised concerns about whether your product is genuine.
Account policy violations: your selling behavior has triggered a flag. Examples include suspected review manipulation and high rates of A-to-z claims.
How to respond to a policy violation warning
Do not ignore it. Log into Seller Central and go to Account Health. Click on the violation. Amazon will show you the specific complaint or policy you violated.
For listing violations: fix the listing immediately and respond through the violation notice with a brief explanation.
For compliance violations: obtain the required documentation from your manufacturer and submit it through the correct Seller Central pathway.
For IP violations: contact the rights holder. If the complaint is unfounded, provide your authorization documentation. If the complaint has merit, remove the listing.
Which violations escalate to suspension fastest
Authenticity and inauthentic product violations are the fastest path to account suspension. A single authenticity complaint that goes unresolved for more than a few days can trigger a full account review.
Review manipulation flags are treated with high urgency. A response within 24 hours with a credible explanation significantly reduces escalation risk.
After you respond
Amazon will either close the violation or request additional information. Unresolved violations remain open and continue to accumulate toward a review threshold.
