Amazon Listing Suppression: Why It Happens and How to Fix It Fast
A suppressed Amazon listing stops appearing in search results without any notification. Here is how to find suppressed listings, what causes them, and how to fix each issue.
What Is a Suppressed Amazon Listing?
A suppressed listing is one that Amazon has removed from search results due to a data quality issue. Unlike a policy violation, suppression is usually caused by missing or invalid attributes in your product listing. The product still exists in your Seller Central account, but customers cannot find it through organic search.
Suppression is different from a listing being "inactive" due to no inventory or a stranded inventory situation. Always check the specific status in Seller Central.
How to Find Suppressed Listings
In Seller Central, go to Inventory > Manage All Inventory. Click the filter dropdown and select "Suppressed." This shows all suppressed listings in your account. You can also access a suppression report under Reports > Listing Quality Dashboard, which provides more detail on which attribute is causing each suppression.
Common Causes of Listing Suppression
Missing main image: Amazon requires a main image on a white background. If your main image is missing, flagged as low quality, or incorrectly formatted, the listing is suppressed immediately.
Image size below minimum: Main images must be at least 1,000 pixels on the longest side (for the zoom feature). Images below 500 pixels on any side can cause suppression.
Missing required attributes: Depending on the category, Amazon may require attributes like bullet points, product description, brand name, or item dimensions. Missing any required field can trigger suppression.
Price not set or outside accepted range: If your price is missing, zero, or detected as anomalous (far outside category norms), the listing can be suppressed.
GTIN exemption expired or invalid: If you claimed a GTIN exemption and Amazon later detects that a valid GTIN exists for your product, the listing may be suppressed.
How to Fix a Suppressed Listing
Click "Edit" on the suppressed listing. Seller Central will show a warning icon next to the problematic fields. Fix each flagged attribute: upload a compliant main image, fill in any required fields, correct the price, or add the missing product identifier.
After saving, the suppression typically lifts within 15-30 minutes if the fix is accepted. If the listing remains suppressed after 24 hours, check the Listing Quality Dashboard for additional issues that may not be visible in the standard edit view.
Preventing Future Suppressions
Set up a weekly check of your Listing Quality Dashboard. Many sellers discover suppressions only when sales drop, by which point the listing has been out of search for days. A proactive weekly review catches issues before they impact revenue. For large catalogs, use the suppression report export to monitor at scale.
