Amazon Listing Images Optimization Guide 2026

Your product images are the single biggest lever for Amazon conversion rates. This guide covers main image rules, gallery strategy, and technical requirements.

Why Images Win or Lose the Sale

On a search results page, your main image is what gets the click. On the product page, the full image gallery is what moves shoppers from browsing to buying. Amazon gives you up to 9 image slots, and most sellers leave half of them empty or filled with poor-quality photos. That is a missed opportunity.

The Main Image Rules

Your main image must show the product on a pure white background with no props, text overlays, or lifestyle elements. The product must fill at least 85 percent of the frame. These are Amazon's rules, and violating them gets your listing suppressed. Get a professional product photo on white. It is worth the cost.

What to Put in the Other 7 Slots

Slot 2 should show the product in use in a real setting. Slot 3 works well for an infographic highlighting key features. Slots 4 and 5 can show different angles or variants. Slot 6 works for a size comparison or scale reference. Slot 7 can address the top buying objection visually. Slot 8 works for packaging or what's in the box. Don't waste any slot on a duplicate angle.

Technical Requirements

Images must be at least 1000 pixels on the longest side to enable zoom. Zoom correlates with higher conversion rates. Use JPEG format, sRGB color space, and keep file sizes under 10MB. Shoot at 2000 to 2500 pixels for best quality while meeting all requirements.
