Amazon Buy Box: How to Win It and Keep It in 2026

The Buy Box receives 80-90% of Amazon sales on any given ASIN. Here is how eligibility works, what factors matter, and how to maximize your share.

What the Buy Box Is

The Buy Box is the Add to Cart button on a product detail page. When multiple sellers offer the same ASIN, Amazon's algorithm selects one to receive the Buy Box at any given moment. The seller who wins the Buy Box receives the majority of sales for that ASIN. Roughly 80 to 90 percent of Amazon sales go through the Buy Box. If you are not winning it, you are not selling much.

Who Is Eligible

Not all sellers are eligible to compete for the Buy Box. You need a Professional seller account, an account that has been active for at least 90 days, and a sufficient order history to establish metrics. New accounts in some categories may face delays before Buy Box eligibility is granted. Check your eligibility in Seller Central under Account Health.

The Key Factors

Price is important but not the only factor. Amazon's algorithm weighs fulfillment method heavily. FBA sellers generally have an advantage over FBM sellers because Amazon's warehouses guarantee fast, reliable shipping. Among FBA sellers with similar prices, the algorithm looks at seller feedback score, order defect rate, late shipment rate, and time to deliver. Sellers with high defect rates rarely win the Buy Box even with the lowest price.

Competitive Pricing Strategy

Matching or beating the lowest competitive FBA price is necessary to compete, but price alone does not guarantee the Buy Box. Use repricing software like Feedvisor or Seller Snap to automate price adjustments. Manual repricing on competitive ASINs is too slow to be effective. Set a floor price that maintains your target margin and let the repricer handle the rest.

Monitoring Your Buy Box Percentage

Check your Buy Box percentage in Seller Central under Reports then Business Reports then Detail Page Sales and Traffic. If your Buy Box percentage drops below 80 percent on an ASIN you should own, investigate: a new FBA competitor may have entered, your price may have drifted, or your metrics may have slipped. The audit tools at amazon-listing-audit can flag ASINs where Buy Box ownership has changed.
