Amazon Appeal Letter: How to Write One That Actually Gets Read

What an Amazon appeal letter must include, the format Amazon expects, and the specific mistakes that cause reviewers to reject appeals without reading them fully.

An Amazon appeal letter is the written document you submit to the Seller Performance team when your account or listing has been suspended. Amazon does not call it a letter internally. They call it a Plan of Action. But the document is the same: a structured written argument for why your account should be reinstated.

What Amazon reviewers actually do with your appeal

Amazon's Seller Performance team reviews hundreds of appeals per day. Each reviewer spends two to five minutes on a typical appeal. They are not reading for sincerity or effort. They are checking whether your appeal contains three things: a specific root cause, completed corrective actions, and concrete preventive measures. If those three elements are present and credible, the appeal moves forward. If any is missing or vague, it is rejected.

The format that works

Open with one sentence identifying the suspension reason. "My account was suspended due to inauthentic product complaints on ASINs B07XXXXX and B08XXXXX."

Then write three labeled sections.

Root Cause: One to three sentences explaining specifically what caused the problem. Avoid phrases like "I was unaware of the policy" or "I take this very seriously." Those are not root causes.

Corrective Actions: A list of specific actions you have already completed. Past tense. "I have removed the two flagged ASINs. I have contacted an authorized distributor and obtained an invoice and letter of authorization."

Preventive Measures: A list of systems you have implemented. "I have created a pre-listing sourcing checklist that requires an authorized distributor invoice before any new ASIN goes live."

Length

One to two pages maximum. Long appeals are not read in full. Short appeals that cover the three sections completely are more effective than long appeals that pad with irrelevant information.

What not to include

Do not include your positive feedback rating, years of selling history, or revenue figures. Amazon does not weigh these when evaluating appeals. Do not threaten legal action. Do not copy an appeal template from the internet. Amazon reviewers recognize template language and it signals that you do not understand your own violation.

After submission

Amazon typically responds within 48 to 72 hours. If rejected, the response will indicate what was insufficient. Use that feedback to revise one section at a time. Targeted revisions with additional evidence are more effective than complete rewrites.
