Amazon Marketplaces
A listing that passes every check on one Amazon marketplace can be suppressed the day it lands on another. Required attributes, language rules, compliance labelling and shipping obligations are all set per marketplace. Each page below covers what that specific marketplace requires, the errors sellers hit there most often, and what to change before you copy a listing across.
Amazon United States (amazon.com)
United States | USD | English
Referral fees range from 6% (personal computers) to 20% (Amazon device accessories). Most categories fall between 8–15%. A $0.30 minimum per-item fee applies across almost all categories.
Amazon United Kingdom (amazon.co.uk)
United Kingdom | GBP | English (British)
UK referral fees mirror US percentages in most categories but are denominated in GBP. VAT registration is required for sellers exceeding the UK VAT threshold (currently £90,000 annual turnover). Non-UK sellers must appoint a UK Responsible Person for product safety under UKCA regulations.
Amazon Germany (amazon.de)
Germany | EUR | German
German referral fees are comparable to US rates but in EUR. Germany has strict seller obligations including VAT registration (Umsatzsteueridentifikationsnummer), packaging law registration (Verpackungsregister LUCID), and Electrical and Electronic Equipment law (ElektroG) registration for electronics and batteries.
Amazon France (amazon.fr)
France | EUR | French
French referral fees match other EU marketplaces at similar percentage bands. France requires packaging waste registration with an approved eco-organization (Citeo is the dominant one). Extended Producer Responsibility rules apply to electronics, batteries, furniture, and textiles.
Amazon Italy (amazon.it)
Italy | EUR | Italian
Italian referral fees follow the EU marketplace structure. Italy requires VAT registration (Partita IVA) and compliance with the RAEE (Rifiuti di Apparecchiature Elettriche ed Elettroniche) scheme for electronics waste. Packaging registration is required under the CONAI system.
Amazon Spain (amazon.es)
Spain | EUR | Spanish
Spanish referral fees are in EUR at comparable rates to other EU marketplaces. Spain requires SIGRE or equivalent registration for packaging waste. Electronics and batteries require RAEE-equivalent registration under the Spanish LER scheme.
Amazon Canada (amazon.ca)
Canada | CAD | English and French
Canadian referral fees are similar to the US structure but in CAD. Canada requires both English and French labeling on many product categories under the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act. GST/HST registration is required once annual Canadian revenue exceeds $30,000 CAD.
Amazon Japan (amazon.co.jp)
Japan | JPY | Japanese
Japanese referral fees are among the lowest globally for some categories, often 8–10%. Japan requires Consumption Tax (JCT) registration for foreign sellers making over 10 million JPY in taxable transactions in Japan. The Japan marketplace requires significantly more preparation than Western markets due to language and cultural requirements.
Amazon Australia (amazon.com.au)
Australia | AUD | English (Australian)
Australian referral fees are generally 6–15% depending on category, denominated in AUD. GST (Goods and Services Tax) at 10% applies to all sales to Australian customers. Amazon collects and remits GST for sellers below the $75,000 AUD threshold under the low-value goods rules.
Amazon Mexico (amazon.com.mx)
Mexico | MXN | Spanish
Mexican referral fees range from 8–15%, charged in MXN. IVA (Impuesto al Valor Agregado) at 16% applies to most goods sold in Mexico. Foreign sellers are required to register for IVA and ISR (Impuesto Sobre la Renta, corporate income tax) if they have a taxable presence in Mexico, which Amazon FBA creates.

Can I copy a listing from Amazon US to another marketplace?
The structure copies, the content should not. Compliance text, units, plug types and size conventions all change across marketplaces, and the EU marketplaces enforce local language requirements that a straight copy fails. Build International Listings will replicate the data, but it does not localise what needs localising.
Does each Amazon marketplace have different listing requirements?
Yes. Required attributes are set per marketplace, not globally, so the same product can be complete in one country and missing mandatory fields in another. EU marketplaces also add labelling and compliance obligations that the US does not have.
Do I need a separate seller account for each country?
No. A unified North America account covers the US, Canada and Mexico, and a European account covers the EU marketplaces plus the UK as a separate registration since Brexit. Japan and Australia are their own registrations.
Which marketplace is easiest to expand into first?
Usually the one that shares your language and your compliance regime, because those are the two things that cause suppressions rather than slow sales. A US seller expanding to Canada has almost no localisation work; the same seller expanding to Germany has a great deal.
