Amazon Listing Bullet Points Best Practices 2026: What Works and What Gets Suppressed
Amazon gives you five bullet points and 500 characters each. Here is how to use them for search ranking and conversion without triggering suppression.
Amazon bullet points serve two purposes: they help A9 index your product for relevant searches, and they convince a buyer who is already reading your listing to add to cart. Most sellers optimize for one and ignore the other.
## The Structure Amazon Rewards
Amazon's A9 algorithm reads bullet points for keyword relevance. Place your two or three most important secondary keywords (those not in your title) in the first 80 characters of each bullet. The rest of the bullet should be a benefit statement, not a feature list.
Bad: "ALUMINUM CONSTRUCTION - Made from aircraft-grade 6061 aluminum" Good: "RUSTPROOF ALUMINUM BODY: Withstands rain, saltwater, and UV exposure — no recoating needed after outdoor use"
The second version leads with a keyword phrase (rustproof aluminum body), addresses a customer concern (rust/weather), and eliminates an objection (no maintenance required).
## What Gets Bullets Suppressed
Amazon suppresses or flags listings for: HTML tags in bullets, promotional phrases ("Best in class", "#1 Seller"), price mentions, seller contact information, time-limited offers ("Order by Friday"), and warranty claims that exceed what Amazon allows. Bullets are also a common cause of keyword stuffing flags — repeating the same keyword three or more times across bullets.
## The Five-Bullet Framework
A reliable structure for most product categories: 1. Lead benefit + primary use case 2. Key material / construction claim + proof point 3. Compatibility or size/fit information (reduces returns) 4. Unique feature that differentiates from competitors 5. What's in the box / included accessories
Keep bullets between 150-250 characters for mobile readability. Amazon shows bullets as-is on mobile, and long bullets wrap awkwardly on small screens, reducing conversion.
## Character Limits in Practice
Amazon allows up to 500 characters per bullet in most categories, but the visible threshold on mobile is around 200 characters before "See more" truncates. Put the most important information in the first 150 characters of each bullet. The remaining characters are still indexed but may not be seen by mobile buyers.
