Amazon FBA Suspension: Why It Happens and How to Get Reinstated
FBA-specific account and listing suspensions on Amazon: the most common triggers, how to appeal each one, and what documentation Amazon requires.
An Amazon FBA suspension can refer to two different things: suspension of your FBA selling privileges or suspension of specific FBA listings due to product compliance issues. Both follow a similar appeal process, but the documentation requirements differ.
FBA-specific suspension triggers
Most Amazon account suspensions affect FBA and FBM sellers equally. But some triggers are specific to FBA. These include: selling products that violate Amazon's FBA prohibited items list, triggering Amazon's dangerous goods (Hazmat) review process, failing Hazmat review due to missing safety data sheets, and receiving excess inventory or stranded inventory flags that accumulate over time.
Hazmat and dangerous goods suspensions
Amazon's Hazmat program applies to products that contain batteries, liquids, powders, aerosols, or flammable materials. If Amazon flags your product for Hazmat review and you do not submit the required Safety Data Sheet (SDS) or exemption sheet within the deadline, your FBA listing is suspended.
To appeal: obtain the correct SDS from your manufacturer or supplier. The SDS must follow GHS format. Upload it through Seller Central's Manage Dangerous Goods Classification tool.
Expired or damaged product complaints
For this type of suspension: request a removal order for all current FBA inventory of the flagged ASIN. Include the removal order confirmation number in your appeal. Add a statement confirming you will submit updated inventory with verified expiration dates going forward.
Safety complaints
Product safety complaints trigger Amazon's Product Safety team, not Seller Performance. You may be asked to submit test reports from an accredited laboratory, product certifications, or documentation proving the product meets the safety standards for its category. If you do not have lab test reports for a product that received a safety complaint, contact a testing laboratory before submitting any appeal.
Preventing FBA suspensions before they happen
Run a listing audit on every ASIN before sending inventory to FBA. Check for compliance flags, image issues, and policy violations that could trigger a suspension after inventory is already in the warehouse. Check your Account Health dashboard weekly. Amazon flags potential Hazmat issues and compliance concerns before they become suspensions.
