Swatch images are the small square images that appear on variation selector buttons on Amazon product pages. When a customer is choosing between Red, Blue, and Green versions of a product, they see the swatch images to identify each color visually. Amazon's swatch image policy requires: swatch images must accurately represent the color, pattern, or style of that specific variant. Uploading the wrong swatch (red swatch for the blue variant) directly causes buyer confusion and returns. Technical requirements for swatches: images should be square (1:1 ratio) for clean display in the selector widget; minimum resolution of 500x500px (smaller images appear blurry); no text, labels, or promotional content on the swatch; and the color shown should be as accurate as possible under standard digital display conditions. Swatch images are separate from main product images — you upload them specifically as the "swatch" image type when adding images to a variation. Accurate swatches are particularly important for: clothing and apparel (buyers choose by color), home goods with multiple finishes, electronics with multiple colorways, and any product where color is a primary decision factor. Inaccurate or missing swatches are a leading cause of "not as described" returns in variation-heavy categories.
