Amazon Policy: Reviews

Amazon Review Policy for Sellers

Amazon's rules for how sellers can and cannot interact with buyer reviews, including permitted review request methods.

Key Points

  • Sellers may use Amazon's Request a Review feature for every order 5-30 days after delivery
  • No incentives for reviews — no discounts, free products, or cash offered in exchange
  • No asking specifically for positive reviews — requests must be neutral
  • No inserting review request cards that ask buyers to "contact us before leaving feedback"
  • Third-party review services that offer incentives violate Amazon policy

Policy Details

Amazon's review policy is designed to ensure reviews reflect genuine customer experience without seller manipulation. Permitted review solicitation methods: Amazon's "Request a Review" button in Seller Central (sends a templated neutral review request from Amazon), Amazon Vine (a program where enrolled products are sent to trusted reviewers who write genuine reviews — available for brand-registered sellers), and follow-up email sequences through approved tools that ask for reviews without specifying a rating or offering incentives. Prohibited review solicitation: offering any form of compensation (discounts, free products, gift cards, cash refunds) in exchange for a review; asking specifically for a "positive" or "5-star" review; contacting buyers after they have left a negative review to ask them to change it; asking buyers to review only if they are satisfied; creating multiple buyer accounts to leave reviews on your own products; using third-party services that offer compensated or manipulated reviews. Product packaging inserts are permitted if they do not mention reviews with incentives, do not ask buyers to contact the seller before leaving feedback, and do not direct buyers to positive review examples. Violations of the review policy can result in listing removal, loss of reviews, or account suspension.

Common Violations

  • Product inserts offering refunds in exchange for reviews
  • Emails asking only for 5-star reviews
  • Using vine outside the program
  • Paying for review services
