Amazon's Restricted Products policy identifies products that either cannot be sold on Amazon at all (prohibited) or can only be sold after obtaining Amazon approval (restricted/gated). Prohibited products include: illegal products under applicable laws, counterfeit or pirated products, products that infringe intellectual property rights, products containing ingredients or materials that violate Amazon policy (certain chemicals, banned substances), products making unauthorized health or safety claims, and products that violate specific marketplace laws (e.g., certain pesticides without EPA registration in the US, certain food items without required certifications). Gated (requires approval) categories include: Grocery, Health & Beauty branded products, certain Electronics, Fine Jewelry, Collectibles, Streaming Media Players, and others. To apply for category approval: go to Add Products in Seller Central, search for a product in the restricted category, and click "Apply to Sell" if the option appears. Approval typically requires documentation such as invoices from an authorized distributor or manufacturer showing recent purchases of authentic product. The restricted products list is maintained in Seller Central Help and is updated regularly. Before sourcing any new product or entering a new category, always check the current restricted products policy for your specific marketplace.
