The main product image (the image that appears in search results) has the strictest requirements of any image slot. Amazon enforces these requirements through automated systems that check for background color, product fill ratio, and prohibited overlays. Background color: must be pure white (RGB 255,255,255). Amazon's systems check this and will suppress listings where the background is detected as off-white, grey, cream, or any other color. Professional background removal followed by a solid white fill in an image editor is the reliable method for achieving true white. Product fill: the product must occupy at least 85% of the image frame — images where the product is small or positioned in a corner will fail this requirement. This means you should frame your product tightly in the image with minimal whitespace around the edges. The image may only show the product being sold in the quantity being sold — if you sell a single item, show a single item. If you sell a pack of 6, show the pack of 6. Prohibited content on the main image: text of any kind, including feature callouts or claims; logos other than what is physically on the product; watermarks from photographers or agencies; human hands or bodies (for most categories — fashion has exceptions); any accessory or item not included in the purchase; Amazon's trademark imagery.
