Policy Details
Amazon's FBA packaging requirements ensure products can be stored, picked, and shipped without damage or safety hazards. General requirements: every unit must be able to withstand handling in the fulfillment center without its packaging failing; items with multiple components must arrive as a single shippable unit (banded, bagged, or boxed together); items that would be damaged by standard handling must have additional protective packaging. Poly bag requirements: products packaged in poly bags require a suffocation warning label if the bag opening is 5 inches (12.7cm) or larger in diameter. The warning must be printed on or affixed to the bag and be readable (minimum 10pt font). Bags must be sealed. Liquids: must have secure, closure-tested lids; should be in a sealed poly bag as a secondary container; liquid products over 4.2 oz (120ml) must pass a pressure differential test. Fragile items: must be wrapped in adequate bubble wrap or foam; packaging must survive a 3-foot drop test from any orientation; Amazon charges prep fees if products arrive improperly packaged and require FBA prep. Sharp or hazardous edges: must be covered to prevent cutting through packaging and to prevent injury during handling. Oversize items: must have handles or be packaged in a box that Amazon associates can safely pick — items over 50 lbs require a "Heavy" label on the box.
Common Violations
- ⚠Missing suffocation warning on poly bags
- ⚠Multi-piece sets arriving loose without bundling
- ⚠Inadequate bubble wrap on fragile items
- ⚠Liquids without secondary containment
