Amazon Product Opportunity Explorer: How to Use It for Research
How to use Amazon's built-in Product Opportunity Explorer tool to identify market gaps and validate product ideas.
Amazon Product Opportunity Explorer is a tool in Seller Central (under Growth > Product Opportunity Explorer) that provides official Amazon data on customer demand for specific product niches. Unlike third-party tools that estimate sales data, POE uses Amazon's actual search and purchase data. What it shows: search volume for keywords in a niche; units sold per month across the niche; top products and their average prices, average reviews, and market share; customer review insights (what buyers love and complain about in existing products); and click concentration (whether a few dominant products get all the clicks or the market is fragmented). How to use it for product research: search for a keyword or product category to see a niche overview. Look for niches with growing search volume, high units sold per month, and fragmented click share (meaning no dominant competitor has locked up the market). Read the "Customer Review Insights" to find the most common complaints about existing products — these are product improvement opportunities. Use the "Gaps" filter to find customer needs that existing products are not meeting well. Limitations: POE shows aggregated niche data, not individual ASIN data. For individual ASIN analysis, tools like Jungle Scout or Helium 10 are still needed. Also, POE is available only in Seller Central — you need an active seller account to access it.
