How to Fix: Incorrect Product Weight
Why this happens
The listed product weight does not match the actual weight. This causes problems with FBA fee calculations (which are based on weight), shipping estimates, and buyer expectations. Often caused by suppliers providing estimated rather than measured weights.
Step-by-step fix
- 1Physically weigh the product as it would be sold (including packaging for FBA)
- 2Update the Item Weight and Package Weight attributes in Edit Listing > More Details
- 3For FBA, check your fee preview in Manage FBA Inventory to see if the corrected weight changes your fees
- 4If Amazon has measured your item at a different weight than you listed, the Amazon measurement takes precedence for fee calculations — contact Seller Support if you believe their measurement is incorrect
- 5Ensure weight is listed in the correct units for the marketplace (lbs and oz for US, kg and g for EU/UK)
Prevention tips
- ✓Weigh all products physically before creating listings — never rely on supplier-provided estimates
- ✓Account for packaging weight when estimating FBA fees at launch
- ✓Audit product dimensions and weights quarterly, especially after packaging changes
Typical fix time: 30 minutes to 24 hours
