How to Fix: Reviews Missing After Variation Change
Why this happens
After changing the variation structure of your product family (adding or removing children, changing the parent), some or all reviews have disappeared from one or more child ASINs.
Step-by-step fix
- 1Do not create new ASINs as a workaround — this will not recover reviews and may create additional problems
- 2Go to Seller Central and verify the current variation structure looks correct in Manage Inventory > Variations
- 3If children were detached from the parent: re-attach them using the flat file upload for your category with the correct parent-child relationship structure
- 4Open a Seller Support case with the ASIN and a description of what changed and when
- 5Request that Amazon restore the review association to the correct ASIN — this is a known issue Amazon can address through their catalog team
- 6If the reviews were legitimately lost due to policy violations or catalog changes Amazon initiated, they may not be restorable
Prevention tips
- ✓Never delete and recreate ASINs as a way to escape negative reviews — this violates Amazon policy and does not work
- ✓Test any variation structure change on one ASIN before applying to your full catalog
- ✓Before making variation changes, document your current review counts per ASIN as a baseline for detecting problems
