How to Fix: Listing Hijack

Why this happens

An unauthorized seller has added an offer to your branded listing, selling a counterfeit, different product, or the same product at a lower price. This takes the Buy Box from you, damages your brand reputation, and causes negative reviews for products you did not sell.

Step-by-step fix

  1. 1If brand-registered: go to Brand Registry > Report a Violation > search your ASIN > report the unauthorized seller
  2. 2For test-buy approach: purchase a unit from the hijacker. If they send a counterfeit or different product, you have documentation for an IP complaint
  3. 3Send a cease and desist (C&D) letter to the seller via Amazon's messaging system citing your brand trademark
  4. 4Submit an IP complaint through Amazon Brand Registry with the evidence from the test buy
  5. 5If not brand-registered: enroll in Brand Registry first — it dramatically improves your ability to remove hijackers
  6. 6Consider enrolling in Transparency (Amazon's anti-counterfeiting program) for products with frequent hijacking

Prevention tips

  • Enroll in Amazon Brand Registry to access anti-counterfeiting tools
  • Set up alerts for new offers on your ASINs using a dedicated monitoring tool
  • For high-risk products, enroll in Amazon Transparency or Project Zero for additional protection
Typical fix time: 1-7 days
