How to Fix: Hazmat (Dangerous Goods) Flag

Why this happens

Your product has been identified (or misidentified) as hazardous material. Products with lithium batteries, flammable liquids, pressurized containers, or certain chemicals trigger hazmat review. Without approved hazmat classification, Amazon will not store or ship the product through FBA.

Step-by-step fix

  1. 1Go to Manage FBA Inventory and find the ASIN with the hazmat flag
  2. 2Check the "Dangerous Goods" status — it shows whether the product is under review, approved, or restricted
  3. 3If under review, submit your Safety Data Sheet (SDS/MSDS) through the Dangerous Goods review process
  4. 4For lithium batteries: complete the battery exemption form (UN 38.3 test summary if required)
  5. 5For products incorrectly flagged: submit documentation proving the product does not contain hazardous materials
  6. 6Products that cannot get hazmat approval for FBA can still be sold FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant)

Prevention tips

  • Research hazmat classification before sourcing any product containing batteries, chemicals, or pressurized contents
  • Obtain SDS sheets from suppliers before creating any FBA listing for potentially regulated products
  • Use Amazon's hazmat check tool in Seller Central before sending inventory to FBA
Typical fix time: 3-14 days
