How to Fix: Duplicate Listing

Why this happens

Two or more Amazon ASINs exist for the same product. This happens when a seller creates a new listing instead of matching to an existing ASIN, when a manufacturer's catalog has multiple entries for the same product, or when variations are incorrectly created as separate listings.

Step-by-step fix

  1. 1Search Amazon for your exact product to identify all duplicate ASINs
  2. 2Determine which ASIN has the best sales rank, reviews, and listing quality — this is the "canonical" ASIN
  3. 3For ASINs you control: close the duplicate listings in Manage Inventory (End listing)
  4. 4For ASINs you do not control: file a report through Seller Central > Help > Contact Us > Product and Inventory Issues > Report a listing or product
  5. 5If reviews or sales rank exist on a duplicate that you want to consolidate, contact Amazon Seller Support to request a merge — this is not always possible
  6. 6Going forward, always search for an existing ASIN before creating a new listing

Prevention tips

  • Before creating any new listing, search by UPC/EAN, ASIN, and product name to check for existing matches
  • Use the "Match or create" workflow in Add Products rather than creating new listings directly
  • Audit your catalog quarterly for duplicate ASINs
